Heil Bill Gates ! -- Evil Lord of the World Wide Web

So Big Bill is here
and by now everyone from Kashmir to Kanyakumari has heard about this
and how he is going to help us eradicate AIDS and provide windows in
16 Indian languages so that future generations of Indians are not denied the
fundamental right to serve as a slave to his Microsoft empire.

Not everybody bends over backwards to accomodate Bill like how we have

Below Bill getting a warm and sweet welcome in Brussels, Belgium.

Up 'till now, Bill enjoys the attention from the press.

Not knowing the intentions of the guy behind the pillar.

Bill gets pie in the face.

And is shocked.

Bill Gates, a man used to having his cake and eating it too,had his cake
and wore it too.

Next time he comes to India somebody should get a vada pav ready
or a bowl of kheer will also do

Many people wonder why anyone would not like Microsoft. "Microsoft gave us the PC and the Internet", they think. "You envy Microsoft because they're so succesful", they say. These people are really ignorant.
The truth is Microsoft has monopoly power and they abuse this power to get even more power.

If you don't agree, please read the Findings of Fact from the US district court. At least read the last paragraph:

412. Most harmful of all is the message that Microsoft's actions have conveyed to every enterprise with the potential to innovate in the computer industry. Through its conduct toward Netscape, IBM, Compaq, Intel, and others, Microsoft has demonstrated that it will use its prodigious market power and immense profits to harm any firm that insists on pursuing initiatives that could intensify competition against one of Microsoft's core products. Microsoft's past success in hurting such companies and stifling innovation deters investment in technologies and businesses that exhibit the potential to threaten Microsoft. The ultimate result is that some innovations that would truly benefit consumers never occur for the sole reason that they do not coincide with Microsoft's self-interest.

Bill Gates once tried to bribe Netscape officials
"How much do we need to pay you to screw Netscape?" Gates reportedly asked AOL, according to an internal AOL document detailing a 1996 meeting. The document, which was blown up on large monitors placed in the packed courtroom, went on to claim that Gates told AOL executives: "This is your lucky day.

Microsoft's strategy for world domination is called
Embrace,Extend and Extinguish

Microsoft, like many other companies in their heyday, has publicly stated that it aims to "embrace and extend" popular standards and existing work.

"Embrace, extend and extinguish" (EEE) is a scornful takeoff on this by Microsoft's critics, used to suggest that the stages of embracing and extending are only prefaces to extinguishing or supplanting existing work with Microsoft alternatives. The term is commonly used on websites such as Slashdot where anti-Microsoft thinking abounds. Critics of Microsoft say the company uses EEE to drive competitors out of business by forcing them to use nonstandard and often purportedly problematic technology that Microsoft controls.

While Bill Gates was here basking in all the attention
Microsoft got fined 33 billion won in South Korea
Yet none of you might have read that because after all we don't want
to annoy Bill by focussing on that when he is here
so our toilet newspapers played it down .

And this is not the first case
Microsoft has always been on the wrong side of the law .
United States Vs Microsoft

Here is an entire list of all that is wrong with Microsoft
Common Criticisms of Microsoft
If you have the time go through it

This man must be really pissed with Microsoft

Unreliable software

As a user of microsoft I can vouch for the unreliablity of windows software
They are prone to frequent crashes are lack lustre, dull and expensive
The three buttons that I use most frequently are Ctrl + Alt + Del

Looks like microsoft invented these to cater to the needs of
people like me

Microsoft's latest offering

How innovative I wonder how much they are going to overcharge us for this ?

Bug riddled and vulnerable to virus attacks

An essential feature of all windows software is that they are filled with bugs
and vulnerable to virus attacks

Microsoft issues bug list

Microsoft Windows is a sinking ship

and when it sinks your heart will not go on but
will break when you realize the value of your
lost data and time.

Having said all this I am still using Windows Operating system
I am stuck with it
My problem can be best described as
Vendor Lock In
Vendor Lock In is a situation in which a customer is dependent on a vendor for products and services and cannot move to another vendor without substantial switching costs, real and/or perceived. By the creation of these costs to the customer, lock-in favors the company (vendor) at the expense of the consumer

Even Bill Gates understands this and admits it in
an internal memo ....
"It is this switching cost that has given the customers the patience to stick with Windows through all our mistakes, our buggy drivers, our high TCO, our lack of a sexy vision at times, and many other difficulties [...] Customers constantly evaluate other desktop platforms, [but] it would be so much work to move over that they hope we just improve Windows rather than force them to move.

"In short, without this exclusive franchise called the Windows API, we would have been dead a long time ago."

But if I am going to buy a new computer I am going to buy one based on Linux
and as soon as I figure out how to save my data and how to install linux on
my PC (Or get someone to install it free)
I will do it
Linux is slowly but surely killing Microsoft

However
I have made a start
I have stopped using internet explorer since a long time and
now only use Firefox

You too can start using firefox and help us take back the web

You too can make a start
Download Firefox
It has many great features that Internet Explorer does not have
and also more secure

I have no idea what these monkeys are upto

Last Word

In a world without walls and fences
who needs windows and gates.

I totally agree. Microsoft has been ruling the world market. Some or the other company has to stand up & give some stiff competition to microsoft

Though I dont like the M$ ways, I feel throwing pie on his face is not the right way.

Page statistics for my blog show that about 60% of users are still on IE while the rest are shared between Firefox, Safari, Opera and Netscape. I know a few (well one of them) using IE because of internal company policies. I wish most others in that 60% are those 'forced' to use IE.

Bill Gates is a Businessman who tries to earn out of everything which makes people jealous !

Just think... How will one make his deals to improve his business had one been the owner of MS? He knew the strategy to exploit the world & has capitalized on it.

I too think that monopoly should not be there... but how many are able to compete against MS? Just two days back, I installed OpenOffice on my PC and it was no different other than new terms for all the same features of MS Office. (though you get it for free... My MS office was not paid-for by me... so why bother?)

I agree that some of the products like Firefox are 100 times better than IE. So, lets wait 'til someone brings out better products as MS substitues.

P.S: I am not for or against MS. Just commenting as a neutral observer.

Great work, nicely compiled article.

You might wanna try out the KnoppixLiveCD [ http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html ], which is a Linux distro that doesn't even need installing on your Windoze formatted drives - you can run it straight off a CD! And if you like how it works, check out this HOWTO [ http://www.freenet.org.nz/misc/knoppix-install.html ] in order to install it on your HDD. Finally, if you decide you want to be a hacker or a security auditor, there's the fantastic Whoppix distro [ http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=whoppix ], LiveCD once again, which eliminates installation worries. Other easy-to-use/learn distros include Ubuntu/Kubuntu, and Lindows, though the proprietary licensing for Lindows makes it as bad as Windoze.

That said, the migration from M$ to open source OSs will only be facilitated once a genuine alternative to MS Office is created. OpenOffice and StarOffice have a long way to go.

In the meantime, I'm happy with my M$-Knoppix network.
